Crystal Palace want club-record fee for Liverpool transfer target

Crystal Palace will set a price tag of over £50m for Liverpool transfer target Marc Guehi, according to a report.

The 23-year-old has developed into one of the better centre backs in the Premier League and has made close to 100 top flight appearances with Palace since his £18m move from Chelsea in 2021.

However, Guehi may not see his total number of outings with the Eagles go much higher, with the nine-cap England international apparently earmarked for sale in the summer.

According to the Telegraph, Palace are "compiling a list of centre-back targets" ahead of the next transfer window, suggesting they are preparing for Guehi's exit.

The former Swansea star has just over two years left on his contract, meaning this summer represents the last chance for the Eagles to cash in on their asset for a significant fee.

Record fee wanted

The report claims that as well as Liverpool, the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs could all be interested in Guehi, while Palace will hold out for a 'club-record sale'.

Currently the Selhurst Park-club's biggest transfer fee received came from Aaron Wan-Bissaka's £50m switch to Manchester United in 2019, setting the bar for Guehi's move this summer.

It's not the first time Guehi's name has come up in connection with Liverpool. One story last month claimed the defender topped the Reds' shopping list, as they seek defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer.

Elsewhere, it has previously been speculated that Palace will seek as much as £60m for Guehi.

A move for that amount would put the Ivory Coast-born star into the top 10 most expensive defenders of all time — and the top five highest fees paid by Liverpool for any player.

Anfield Watch understands that defence is a priority area for Liverpool this summer, with the club looking for at least one new centre back.

The Reds' interest in sourcing a young, left-sided defender is well known, with Goncalo Inacio (Sporting CP) and Piero Hincapie (Bayer Leverkusen) among the options explored. However, with Joel Matip's contract expiring this summer and the litany of injury issues experienced this season, there may also be a desire to bring in more options.
