Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus on a four-year deal.

The 51-capped Italian joins Arne Slot’s squad and could be available as soon as Sunday, for Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

It was reported earlier this week that Liverpool had agreed a fee in the region of €13 million for the 26-year-old and the deal has now been officially confirmed.

Chiesa is the second signing completed by Liverpool this summer, after a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili was announced earlier this week.

Who is Federico Chiesa?

The Italian will take the vacant number 14 shirt at Liverpool, the first club he has played for outside of his home nation.

The winger played 131 times for Juventus and has won the European Championships with his nation Italy.

Chiesa is coming off the back of a season where he played in 33 of Juve’s 38 Serie A matches and scored 10 goals, also providing a further three assists.

The forward has faced some injury problems over the past few seasons, most notably missing nine months due to a cruciate ligament tear in 2022, but after a solid season last campaign Liverpool supporters will be hoping the Italian’s injury worries are behind him.

How does Chiesa fit in at Liverpool

Chiesa is joining a side that is already stacked with attacking talent, but he will have a lot to offer Arne Slot. He can be deployed across the front line and can act as backup to Mohamed Salah on the right-wing, a position that Liverpool were lacking depth in.

The winger is known for his electric pace and dribbling ability but is also a great passer of the ball and should be able to drop right into Slot's first team.

Chiesa will become the first Italian national to play for Liverpool since Mario Balotelli, who joined the club from AC Milan in 2014.
