Liverpool transfer news: Wataru Endo LATEST as Champions League club urged to SWOOP for Reds midfielder

Scottish giants Celtic have been urged to sign Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo this summer after reports linking the Japan international with an Anfield exit.

Marseille had a bid rejected for Endo earlier in the transfer window and it was believed that Liverpool were happy to offload the 31-year-old - despite the fact that he only joined the Reds in 2023.

The former Stuttgart man was an important player for Liverpool last season and impressed supporters after arriving for £16m following failed moves for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Endo's spirit, determination and in-game intelligence helped endear him to the Anfield faithful, but the defensive midfielder was never going to be the club's long-term No.6.

Liverpool tried to sign the heir to Fabinho's throne this summer but were rejected by Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.

As a result, it seems extremely unlikely that Endo will be allowed to leave Merseyside before the window shuts, but that hasn't stopped Celtic legend Peter Grant urging the Bhoys to sign the Japan captain.

Celtic told to sign 'very good' Wataru Endo

Speaking to Go Radio (via Glasgow World) about midfield signings for Celtic amid possible exits for Matt O'Riley and Reo Hatate, Grant suggested that Endo would be his ideal solution.

"I really liked him when he was in Germany. I thought it was a really good signing for Liverpool, and he did really well for Liverpool last year under [Jurgen] Klopp. Klopp obviously knows the German game very well," said Grant.

"He brought him in and thought he would do a job for Liverpool, and he proved that. I think the Liverpool fans were really impressed with him last year. It’ll be interesting to see; I think it would be more of a loan than anything else.

"Endo could come in and play that sitting one [midfield position]. So I can understand the reasoning behind it. He’s a very, very good player."

As mentioned, Liverpool are now unlikely to sanction a sale or loan for Endo this summer following Zubimendi's snub, but the veteran's days look increasingly numbered at Anfield.
