Liverpool target Caicedo "wants move to Anfield" in January

According to sources at football insider, Moises Caicedo has reportedly told friends that he wants to join Jurgen Klopp's side in the January transfer window as Liverpool continue to look for midfield reinforcements.

With a move for Jude Bellingham in the summer hinging on if the Reds can finish in the Champions League places, and Enzo Fernandez's move to Chelsea stalling over his release clause of 120 million Euros, Brighton's Moises Caicedo is another name that has been continuously linked with a move after some stellar performances, since joining Brighton from Independiente del Valle in February 2021 via a loan spell at Belgian side Beerschot until January last year. Other Premier League sides have also been linked with Caicedo, but what makes the 21-year-old so coveted by the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United?

A MIDFIELDER FULL OF ENERGY

If Liverpool are able to successfully bring in Caicedo, they will be getting a midfielder that brings energy in the middle of the park, as well as someone who does not shy away from a tackle and also has the opportunity to get himself forward. The Ecuadorian this season for Brighton has 1 goal and 1 assist, but has shown impressive displays in the games that he has played for Roberto De Zerbi's side. In Brighton's 4-2-3-1 system, Caicedo often acts as the holding midfielder, breaking up opposition attacks and allowing Brighton to go forward when he does win the ball back. According to statistics provided by WhoScored.com, the 21-year-old is ranked third for the best tackle success rate in the Premier League this season, with only West Ham United's Declan Rice and Everton's Amadou Onana above him.

WILL BRIGHTON BE TEMPTED TO SELL

Given how well Brighton have done in the Premier League so far this season, despite Graham Potter leaving to replace Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, Caicedo is a man who is very much in demand. Brighton CEO Paul Barber has already mentioned that their have been no offers or phone calls for the midfielder, whilst journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter seems to think that Chelsea seem the most likely destination, despite them currently in protracted talks with Benfica over Argentine international Enzo Fernandez. Despite this, the south-coast club value the Ecuadorian at £70 million, so it's up to interested clubs to see if they will go all out for Caicedo in this window.

Could Moises Caicedo be the midfield signing that Liverpool need in January Reds fans?

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Moises Caicedo is a player that I think that Liverpool needs for their midfield. At 21, he looks a fantastic player who knows how to dictate the tempo, win the ball back for his team and is able to create chances for other teammates. He looked stellar during Ecuador's World Cup campaign, and there is no pressure to sell from Brighton considering how well they have performed since De Zerbi took over. If Jude Bellingham is a transfer Jurgen Klopp hopes to make in the summer - then Moises Caicedo is the midfielder he needs to sign in January.
