Liverpool only considering Kylian Mbappe transfer in event of big-money Mohamed Salah exit

Liverpool are exploring the possibility of securing the signing of Kylian Mbappe – but only if Mohamed Salah leaves, Anfield Watch has been told.

The Reds are keen on the Paris Saint-Germain attacker and will look to persuade him to join up at Anfield, though they will only do so if Salah departs the club in a mega-money move to the Saudi Pro League.

Anfield Watch understands that Salah has not informed Jurgen Klopp of his desire to move away, while it would take a huge offer for the Reds to consider selling their all-time top Premier League goalscorer.

Mbappe’s contract is up at the end of this season, and he has yet given no indication that he will be willing to activate the option of a further year and is assessing his options.

It means that there is still a real possibility that the superstar leaves PSG for nothing next summer. Real Madrid have been extensively linked to the Frenchman, but recent reports claim they have cooled their interest.

Anfield Watch has been informed Liverpool are looking at options in which they could convince Mbappe of a move to Merseyside. The Liverpool hierarchy is said to be assessing the financial implications of a potential departure for Salah, though they remain resolute in their position of not being open to any sale for the Egyptian.

However, if an exceptional offer were to come in, the Reds may reconsider this position and could potentially use the money to put against Mbappe’s wages.

The 2018 World Cup winner star is currently on well over £1m per week at PSG, which is beyond anything Liverpool could reasonably afford to pay – with current highest earner Salah on around £350k a week.

Recent reports claim that the France star would require €35m (£30m) per year (after tax), as well as a massive €100m (£87m) signing-on bonus in order to leave PSG, which while still an enormous outlay for any club, would be a significant drop from his current salary.

Salah’s contract will be in its final year by June, with his latest contract up at the end of the 2024/25 season.
