"Liverpool offered" - Yevhen Konoplyanka on missing out on transfer to Anfield

Yevhen Konoplyanka has revealed that he was desperate to join Liverpool back in the summer of 2014.

The attacker said that the Reds offered Dnipro €25 million for his services. However, the club were not prepared to sell Konoplyanka at the time.

“I was crying. A delegation of serious people from Liverpool came to Dnipropetrovsk. We ate dinner. They were (willing) to pay as much as (Dnipro owner) Ihor Kolomoyskyi wanted,” Konoplyanka told Weszlo.

“Martin Skrtel wrote me a message; ‘We are waiting for you’. Steven Gerrard also gave me his blessing.

“I used to go to Kolomoyskyi; ‘Please, please, please, let me go. It will make my dream come true’. I begged.

“Liverpool offered 25 million euros (£18 million). But I didn’t feel disappointed about going to Sevilla.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Missing out on Konoplyanka has not impacted Liverpool in recent years. The reality is, the Reds have signed some world-class forwards in recent seasons (Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino).

The aforementioned players have helped the club win six major trophies since 2019. But, it is nice to hear that Konoplyanka was desperate to join Liverpool.

You want footballers willing to represent your club. Anfield is a special place to play. There is is a reason why the crowd is known as the '12th man'.

So, we don't blame Konoplyanka for wanting to join the Reds. It just wasn't meant to be for the attacker.

In terms of this summer transfer window, Liverpool have added Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay to their ranks.

Only time will tell if the club are to acquire anymore signings.
