Germany FA president speaks out on Julian Nagelsmann amid Liverpool links

The president of the German FA has admitted he 'won't be opposed' to Julian Nagelsmann continuing as the national team head coach beyond the summer, despite links to clubs including Liverpool.

The 36-year-old Nagelsmann was appointed as Germany manager on a short-term contract last year, with the remit of leading his country through the 2024 Euros on home soil.

The former Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig manager has already been linked to a host of clubs for next season, with Liverpool touted as one such possibility.

While Xabi Alonso remains the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp this summer, Nagelsmann is among the other main contenders for the role alongside the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim.

The Athletic has reported that the highly rated coach "performs well according to the data" in Liverpool's managerial search.

Open to offers

Speaking recently, Nagelsmann failed to play down speculation over his future, admitting he would sign the first satisfactory contract offer that came his way.

"If I have a contract offer before the Euros that I'm satisfied with and that makes me feel comfortable, then the likelihood of me signing it before the Euros is high," he said.

"Currently, I don't have anything on the table. Therefore, I can't answer the question. The likelihood of something happening before the Euros is there, but as of now, there's also a chance that nothing will happen."

Now, however, Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German FA, has admitted he would be keen for Nagelsmann to continue with the national team

He told reporters on Thursday: "The chemistry is there. Julian said that he would like clarity about his future before the Euros. We certainly won't be opposed to such a wish."

Meanwhile, there have been reports that the German FA are still interested in appointing Klopp as the national team head coach.

According to FootballTransfers, Germany are so keen on Klopp that they are willing to accommodate his desire for a year-long sabbatical, but could look to get him in place for the 2026 World Cup cycle.
