Liverpool ranked in top FIVE most valuable football teams in the world

Liverpool have been ranked among the top five most valuable football teams in the world and inside the top 30 for all sports franchises, by an American report.

Sports business site Sportico has released a list of the top 100 sports franchises, with with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys coming out on top overall at a value of $9.2 billion (£7.3 billion).

While the list, as you might expect, is dominated by American franchises, 11 European football teams make the cut — Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG, Tottenham and Juventus.

Liverpool sit 29th overall, sandwiched between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs, but fourth out of all football teams and with a value of $4.71 billion (£3.73 billion).

In terms of the rationale for the figures, Sportico claims: "The top 100 franchises are based on Sportico’s most recent valuations for NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, F1 and global soccer.

"To derive the market value of the sports franchises, Sportico calculated each team’s revenue relying on publicly available information and financial records—as well as interviews with those knowledgeable of team finances, including sports bankers and attorneys who actively work on transactions. This information was vetted by team personnel, including owners, team or parent company CEOs, presidents, chief financial officers and media relations employees, as well as industry experts and investors."
Interestingly from a Liverpool perspective, the Reds' FSG owners' other major franchise the Boston Red Sox are ranked 20th on the list with a value of $5.21 billion (£4.13 billion).
Liverpool's value is also recorded as having a 14% increase from last year.
