Liverpool FC news: Owen Beck makes PFA Scotland Team of the Year

Liverpool just saw one loan star make a top-flight Team of the Year after a stellar campaign. The Reds will face a decision this summer.

Owen Beck has been named in the Scottish PFA Team of the Year. The left-back has shone while at Dundee this season, earning his place.

It's been the first 'real' senior season of Beck's career, who struggled for minutes while at Bolton Wanderers last season. In fact, that loan spell was terminated prematurely in January 2023 as the youngster couldn't get a game.

And that had come after a disastrous time at Familicao in Portugal. Beck made zero appearances having joined in the summer of 2022, with Liverpool calling it a day that August.

Dundee were willing to give him a shot this season - and with fantastic results. Beck was so good, in fact, that Liverpool recalled him in January as cover. Both Celtic and Rangers reportedly tried to snap him up earlier this year - only for the Reds to reject both proposals.

Beck then rejoined Dundee for the rest of the season and continued to impress. Now his fellow professionals in Scotland have named him the best left-back in the country.

It's easy to see why. Beck has two goals and four assists this season, creating two chances per game on average. His efforts are enough that Liverpool do face a big decision this summer.

What should Liverpool do with Owen Beck?

Liverpool have two solid left-backs in Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, though both have had injury issues this season. Their experience certainly puts them far ahead of Beck in the pecking order, however.

But the on-loan player does have one area of 'expertise' that they don't. Dundee play with wing-backs, which is a formation Liverpool could swap to this summer.

If that does happen, Beck could find himself with an advantage in pre-season. Would that be enough to force a place in the first-team squad next season? It's hard to say, but he'll certainly have plenty of confidence behind him as he tries to impress the new boss.

Don't rule out him getting his chance next season.
