Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp to return to Borussia Dortmund

Just four months after his final game at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp is set to make a thrilling return to coaching, albeit in a slightly different setting.

Klopp shocked Liverpool fans earlier this year after he announced he would be leaving the club at the end of the season after nine years in charge. Since then the German boss has spent his summer relaxing and spending time with his family, with no plans to return to football any time soon.

However, this weekend he will be returning to a familiar dugout for one game only.

Klopp returns to Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund will celebrate the careers of Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski with a farewell game at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday 7 September. The pair were part of the club's back-to-back Bundesliga winning teams in 2011 and 2012, and several BVB legends are set to return to honour them.

Klopp will take charge of Blaszczykowski's team in front of 80,000 people for what is set to be a special and nostalgic event. Mats Hummels will also get to bid farewell to BVB fans, having recently completed his move to AS Roma on a free transfer.

Perhaps most exciting for fans is the chance to see Klopp in a setting that’s less formal, more celebratory, and entirely for fun. His rapport with supporters has always been a key part of his managerial style, and this game will offer an opportunity to rekindle that connection in a new, relaxed atmosphere.

Klopp isn't the only Liverpool affiliate to take part in the match.

Former assistant manager Peter Krawietz will take charge of Piszczek's team, managing former Reds midfielder and current Dortmund head coach Nuri Sahin.

Though Klopp is known for his high-octane "gegenpressing" style, which emphasises quick transitions and intense pressing, it's unlikely that his tactical demands will be as stringent in this setting.

While the match may lack the intensity of his usual touchline experiences, it will be filled with the spirit of the game that Klopp has embodied throughout his career: passion, joy and a deep connection to those around him.

In this nostalgic celebration of BVB's greatest players, Klopp will once again remind us why he remains one of the most beloved figures in the sport.
