As Jurgen Klopp's impending departure from Liverpool casts a shadow over Anfield, the Reds are already gearing up for a significant overhaul, both in the managerial hot seat and on the pitch. One player almost certain to leave is midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard turns 33 next month, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it seems his time at Anfield is drawing to a close.

Sources suggest that Thiago's departure from Liverpool is all but certain, paving the way for a potential move to another European powerhouse.

According to a report from Fichajes, the experienced midfielder could be eyeing one last challenge at a top club before considering options outside of Europe.

With his contract situation making him an attractive proposition in the transfer market, the report suggests that Serie A duo Juventus and Inter Milan are “evaluating the possibility of incorporating Thiago to reinforce their midfield lines”.

Having enjoyed successful spells with Barcelona and Bayern Munich prior to joining Liverpool, Thiago could be tempted by a new adventure in Italy's Serie A.

The prospect of testing himself in another of Europe's top leagues could be an enticing proposition for the seasoned campaigner as his illustrious career winds down.

It would appear that the midfielder is eyeing one last challenge at a top club before considering options outside of Europe or even possibly coaching.

Bittersweet Liverpool career

His time at Liverpool has been bittersweet, marked by moments of brilliance and marred by persistent injury setbacks.

Despite his undeniable talent, recurring issues have repeatedly limited Thiago's involvement on the pitch, with the midfielder only managing to play a handful of minutes this season, all coming during the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in February.

When Liverpool signed Thiago in 2020, they broke the mold by acquiring a player approaching his thirties, departing from their usual recruitment strategy of targetting younger talents with resale value. But despite the initial excitement surrounding his arrival, Thiago's time at Anfield has been a mixed bag.

During his four-year stint on Merseyside, Thiago has contributed three goals and six assists in 98 appearances across all competitions. His influence was pivotal in Liverpool's triumphs in the FA and Carabao Cup in 2022, but at this stage, it wouldn't be unfair to say that the gamble hasn't quite paid off.
