A Grand Day Out
His opposition, ‘Team Piszczek’, was taken charge of by his former Anfield assistant, Peter Krawietz. The side included fellow Dortmund heroes Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis, and current manager of the side, Nuri Sahin. With Piszczek currently being Sahin’s assistant in the dugout, it came as no surprise that the manager would feature in the occasion.
Klopp’s ‘vibes’-based approach proved worthwhile too, as his side ran out 5-4 winners in an incredibly entertaining affair. Polish winger Kamil Grosicki and Paraguayan maestro Lucas Barrios both bagged braces in front of 81,365 at the Westfalenstadion, whilst BVB legend Mladen Petric added another.
The pick of the goals came from current Dortmund manager and ex-Red Nuri Sahin however, with a sensational chip over Weidenfeller’s head, much to the amusement of Klopp and those joining him in the stadium. Piszczek was treated to a resounding ovation as both he and Blaszczykowski were substituted off in the 89th minute.
The sight of Klopp back on the touchline warmed the hearts of Dortmund and Liverpool fans alike. With the occasion being such a resounding success, minds will turn to the idea of an equivalent feel-good day at Anfield in the future. There are numerous faces fans would like to see in red one last time and the ‘vibes’ would surely be unparalleled.
