As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures.

While Liverpool have seen a whole host of new stars emerge in the early stages of this season, the iconic trio of Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are yet to commit to a future at Anfield beyond the end of the season.

And with fans starting to get a little bit more than trepidation about the situation, anything looks like it could be a sign.

An old friend

With the surprise visit of former captain Jordan Henderson to the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, seen all over social media, fans have been wondering just what the now-Ajax man could be doing there.

Naturally, fan speculation turned to trying to influence the players’ decisions on their next contracts.

@NeilLFC_5 wrote, ‘He's obviously there to video Trent contract announcement. How he watched him come through as a Boy while he was Captain. I am not reaching this is definitely what it is.’, whilst @empireofthekop wrote, ‘Come to help sort out these contracts *laughing emoji*’.

While the idea could be a huge reach, it does beg the question of exactly why Henderson is here now. Of course, he is welcome back at the club any time he wants, having captained the side to a Premier League title and a Champions League victory, but it’s not like he doesn’t have anything else to be doing.

The 34-year old currently captains Dutch giants Ajax, who currently sit 5th in the Eredivise. He did only play the final seven minutes of the side’s league win over Waalwijk last weekend and then missed their Europa League trip to Slavia Prague last night, with an as-yet unnamed injury.

This follows an ill-fated move to play for Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq side in Saudi Arabia last summer.

Admittedly, if any former teammate had the ability to get in the ear of Salah, Trent and van Dijk it would be their former captain. At this stage, Reds would welcome anything that could get those deals over the line.
