Arne Slot has indicated that Jarell Quansah may be a doubt for Sunday’s meeting with Brentford, with the defender picking up a knock in midweek following Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Ipswich Town.

Slot, who opted to substitute Quansah in last weekend’s encounter at Portman Road, referenced the injury and the defender’s frustration at being substituted.

The Dutch manager declared that Quansah reacted “in a way you would expect a player to react. I spoke to him immediately after the game, I spoke to him the day after on Sunday and at the end of that conversation he asked if he could train on the Sunday. Normally he should have done recovery, [but] he wanted to train.”

“Unfortunately, I think it was Tuesday that he picked up a bit of an injury, so he couldn't train on Wednesday – let's see if he can train today.”

Quansah played a key role in the Liverpool backline last season, making 17 Premier League appearances following his top- flight debut in August 2023.

Despite picking up an injury, the defender shared some frustration at being taken off for Ibrahima Konate in the second half of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against Ipswich , as touched on by Slot.

“The language was a problem because what I said was he did not lose every duel – but he lost one or two important ones, and one of them was just before half-time,” Slot noted.

“From what has been told to me, it's like that I said he lost every duel – which he did not do, we as a team lost too many duels and he lost one or two as well.”

Should Quansah be unavailable to face Brentford, it is hoped he will be able to recover in time for Liverpool’s meeting with Manchester United at Old Trafford, before a potential call up to the England senior side for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
