James Blunt has promised to legally change his name if the re-release of his debut studio album hits number one in the charts, with a Liverpool cult hero’s name a potential choice.

The singer has asked his Twitter followers to suggest a new name in the replies to his tweet, with the most liked suggestion being the one he'll choose.

"I’m legally changing my name if ‘Back To Bedlam’ 20th Anniversary Edition reaches No.1," he said.

"Comment your name suggestions below, and the most-liked comment wins."

There have been plenty of suggestions so far, with the inevitable 'Blunty McBluntface' a popular option, but one Liverpool hero's name has been suggested and is the most-liked response so far.

That's right, if Blunt's album makes it to number one, he'll be changing his name to Divock Origi.

Why is Blunt changing his name?

James Blunt is no stranger to a good PR campaign – the singer has used Twitter to promote his music for years and is known for his humorous approach to interacting with fans and haters alike.

This latest stunt is designed purely to get as many people as possible to buy his album, although it's fair to say he probably doesn't think it will outsell the likes of Sabrina Carpenter or Chappel Roan, who have been dominating the charts in recent weeks.

However with the Origi suggestion likely to be the most popular suggestion, and Liverpool fans numbering in their millions, it does seem possible that the move could power him to number one.

You know what to do, Liverpool fans.
