Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits the club’s current injury situation is “not great” as his side prepare for Wednesday night’s Premier League visit of Luton Town with a depleted squad.

Alisson Becker missed the 4-1 win at Brentford with a “muscle injury” with Caoimhin Kelleher taking over in goal, while Klopp’s problems were compounded at the Gtech Community Stadium by fresh injuries to Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones.

Alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago, it means the Reds have a sizeable injury list at a key juncture of the Premier League season.

Furthermore, they face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final this Sunday without several key stars.

“It's not great,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference on Tuesday. “Definitely not.

“We would like to sit here and say there are absolutely no issues but obviously we have some. Not available obviously, Ali [Alisson], it's a muscle injury; don't know exactly how long it takes but definitely not foreseeable time.

“Then we have Diogo [Jota], with a knee issue, is ruled out. Curtis [Jones], with a bone, ligament issue, ruled out.

“And then we have the others where we will deal with it day by day.

“For tomorrow you will see the line up early enough and you can see who made it and who didn't make it.

“All the little bit longer term [ones] like Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Dom [Szoboszlai] they are on their way back but not in team training yet and so that means they are not available as well. That's the situation.

“What I said after the game, as long as we have 11 players we will go for it and that is exactly the idea.”

When asked if the new injuries would take months or weeks to heal, Klopp said about his Portuguese forward Jota: “Diogo will take rather months.

And Curtis... with injuries you have important days, like day five or day 10, when you judge the situation again, because not everyone reacts in same way. It depends on pain level they still have and stuff like this. I couldn't give you a timeframe even if I wanted to. They all react differently. That is just how it is. When you don't have these players it makes no sense (to speculate)."

While Klopp later insisted he didn't want to put a specific timeframe on return dates, the suggestion is that Jota will be out for some time, with the forward also likely out of the crucial Premier League showdown with Manchester City on March 10 as well as the Carabao Cup final.
