Liverpool in talks with the council over end-of-season open-top bus parade

Liverpool fans could be given a chance to give manager Jurgen Klopp a massive send-off at the end of the season, with it being reported that the club are in talks with the city council over holding an open-top bus parade as a "fitting farewell" to the German.

As reported by Paul Joyce in the Times, these talks come on the heels of Liverpool's thrilling Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea on Sunday which sparked conversations at the executive level of the club.

Typically, Liverpool wouldn't organise an open-top bus tour after a Carabao Cup win, but Klopp's imminent departure in May after nine remarkable years at the helm has spawned the idea of honoring him with a grand farewell procession.

If plans materialise, Liverpool City Council would need to extend a formal invitation to the club to organise the celebratory event.

The last parade of this magnitude occurred in 2022 following Liverpool's Carabao Cup and FA Cup triumphs, drawing hundreds of thousands of jubilant fans to the city centre.

No further cups required

According to the same report, Liverpool would look to push ahead with such plans regardless of whether the side won any further silverware this season.

Of course, a quadruple is still a possibility. The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League, are the favourites to win the Europa League, and face Southampton in the FA Cup at Anfield this Wednesday.

However, if the Carabao Cup is the only trophy the Reds win this season, this would, of course, open the club up to outside derision - even if Klopp himself hailed Sunday's 1-0 triumph over Chelsea as the "most special" of his managerial career.

Liverpool were hit with a full-blown injury crisis and had to field a team of several inexperienced teenagers in the absence of the likes of Alisson Becker, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez.

Despite being under pressure from Chelsea towards the end of the 90 minutes, Klopp's young side took the game to extra time where captain Virgil Van Dijk was the hero with a 118th-minute winner.
