The Uruguay international's current deal does not expire until the summer of 2025.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Nunez is a good player. The forward has scored 25 goals and registered two assists in 30 appearances for Benfica this season.
Nunez has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.44 across the 2021-22 club campaign.
Back in October 2020, the current Benfica manager Jorge Jesus gave the Uruguay international the highest praise possible.
As quoted by Archy Sport, the 67-year-old said the following: “He was the most expensive player in the history of Benfica and, with the pandemic, I don’t know, but he could also be the most expensive player to leave Benfica.
"This boy will be the best in the world and, unfortunately for me, I will lose him in no time."
The aforementioned figures/comments highlight that Nunez is a very talented player.
The exciting thing about the forward is that he is only 22 years of age. It would be fair to assume that he still has plenty of room left for improvement.
Nunez would certainly add some depth and quality to the club's attack. In saying that, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp does not lack options up front (Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz).
An attacking player should not be a priority for Liverpool right now. But, only time will tell if the Reds are genuinely interested in signing the forward.
For the time being, we are just going to sit back and enjoy watching Liverpool play. The summer transfer window is still a few months away.
