Liverpool have been linked with a move for West Ham United midfielder

Liverpool are interested in signing West Ham United defensive midfielder Declan Rice, according to Football Insider, as cited by the Liverpool Echo.

The report states that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp believes that the Englishman would add something to the club's midfield.

However, West Ham United manager David Moyes has stated in the past that the Hammers will not sell Rice for anything less than £150 million.

The 23-year-old's contract does not expire until June 2024.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Rice is a very good player. The midfielder has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.12 across the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has had plenty of good things to say about Rice in the past.

“I think he would,” the Irishman said on Sky Sports back in September 2021, as quoted by Pundit Arena. “I think Declan’s improved as much as any player over the last one or two seasons."

Keane added: “I look to where I was when I was 22. I think he’s way ahead of me when I was 22.

“I think the next step will come when he’s playing at a higher level, Champions League, competing for trophies.

“He’s obviously a regular for England. There’s a lot more to come from him.”

The aforementioned figures and comments highlight that Rice would be a good signing for Liverpool.

But, the reality is, Klopp already has Fabinho at his disposal. As we pointed out earlier today, the holding midfielder has been playing well this season and his time at Anfield is far from finished.

Fabinho has not indicated that he wants to leave Liverpool either. Therefore, signing Rice should not be a necessity for the club.

Also, Transfermarkt value the Englishman at €75 million, which highlights that West Ham United overvalue him. Liverpool would be wise to save their money.
