Gary Neville compares Liverpool ace Harvey Elliott to Bernardo Silva

Gary Neville has heaped praise on 21 year-old Harvey Elliott likening him to Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.

It's hard to believe that a player would benefit from the departure of the legendary Jurgen Klopp but Harvey Elliott may be of the minority.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville discussed on Sky Sports how the midfielder could relish in the 'number ten' role in Arne Slot's system, rather than being a wide player which we saw Elliott often occupy under Klopp.

"[Slot’s system] actually probably suits him a little bit more than Jurgen Klopp’s.

"He used to play in place of Salah [on the right under Klopp] but he doesn’t have the pace for that.

"I definitely think he is someone who plays in the centre. I think Slot plays with more of a number ten," Carragher said.

Elliott will be hoping to feature on Sunday when Liverpool welcome Brentford to Anfield after being an unused substitute against Ipswich Town last weekend.

'Like a Bernardo' Neville is a fan of Harvey Elliott

In the same conversation, Gary Neville added that he was impressed with the way Liverpool looked a much better side last season when Elliott was on the pitch.

“I always thought last season, when I watched Liverpool, every time he came on they had more about them. He added a lot to them,” Neville said.

The former Manchester United defender went on to compare him to one of the Premier League's biggest stars Bernardo Silva, stating that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola would love the English midfielder.

“I think he is a player who, with all due respect and I think he will have a great career at Liverpool, he would be amazing in Spain. Honestly, his technical ability, the way he plays…

“Pep would love him. Like a Bernardo, you think about him in terms of the way he plays.

“I heard a term the other day that was quite good; ‘wide-controllers’. He’s like that. He controls the game from a wide area. Pep would love him. I like him as a player," Neville added.
