Liverpool could revive Gordon deal as Newcastle open Elanga talks
The next few hours are set to be extremely interesting with regards to Liverpool's pursuit of Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon.
According to reports, The Reds made an enquiry over the England international who joined the Magpies in January 2023 from Everton and weighed in with 21 goal contributions in 35 Premier League appearances during the 2023/24 season.
However, talks between the two clubs did break down with Liverpool not willing to include highly-rated central defender Jarell Quansah in the deal. Although it should be noted that the Daily Mail's report has clearly stated that a deal could yet be revived.
Now, as it's June 30 - the end of the financial accounting period - Newcastle are under pressure to make some big sales this summer in order to stay compliant with profit and sustainability rules. This has prompted talk of exits for Yankuba Minteh, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.
But it would appear that Gordon could be the one on the move and The Daily Mail's Lewis Steele has teased that today could be a big transfer day for many Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.
"Get the yellow ties out, PSR deadline day is more exciting than the real thing," he wrote on X.
Newcastle open talks for potential Gordon replacement
As per Sky Sports, Newcastle have opened talks with Nottingham Forest over a deal for Anthony Elanga as Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen in attack.
It's understood that the former Manchester United forward's versatility appeals to the Magpies boss having played across the front three for Forest last season.
Given the Gordon to Liverpool links, naturally it may come across that Newcastle have identified the perfect replacement should the 23-year-old make a sensational return to Merseyside.
Of course, there is no guarantee a deal will happen but it's certainly a transfer story to follow throughout the day.
