Liverpool forward reportedly set to depart the club in the summer

Liverpool forward Divock Origi is set to depart the club in the summer, according to The Mirror, as cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.

The Belgium international would reportedly like to try a new challenge. Origi's contract expires in June 2022, which means that he can sign for another club on a free transfer come the summer.

The 26-year-old is surplus to requirements at Anfield. Despite being fit, Origi has only played 421 minutes of football for Liverpool this season.

However, when the striker has represented the Reds throughout the 2021-22 campaign, he has performed reasonably well. Origi has scored five goals and registered two assists.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool signed Origi from Lille for a transfer fee of €12.63 million back in July 2014. The forward has proven to be a decent player for the Reds.

Origi has found the back of the net 40 times and registered 16 assists in 168 appearances for the club's first-team.

The Belgium international has scored in some big games for the Reds. Footage backs up the aforementioned argument.

Jamie Carragher is a big fan of Origi simply because of his influence on big matches.

As quoted by the Mirror, the Scouser told Sky Sports the following back in December 2021: "Divock Origi is a legendary figure at Liverpool but it's not because everyone thinks he's a great player, it's because of the great goals he's scored."

Origi has also won four major trophies with Liverpool. Therefore, we will miss Origi when he does depart the club.

Only time will tell where the forward's long-term future lies. Regardless of what happens, we wish Origi all the best going forward.

Hopefully the Belgium international can win another trophy or two before he leaves Liverpool. That's the least he deserves.
