“You’ve not seen the real Naby Keita yet" - Liverpool's No.8 wants to put things right
Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has claimed that the Anfield faithful are yet to see the best of him.
The Reds signed the Guinea international from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €60 million back in the summer of 2018.
However, Keita has not lived up to the aforementioned price tag. In the 27-year-old's four years at the club, he has only scored 10 goals and registered five assists in 101 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
Keita has not been able to stay fit during his time at Anfield, which is a key reason why he has struggled to get going.
But, Liverpool's No.8 is confident that he still has plenty to offer.
As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Keita told the club's official website the following: “You’ve not seen the real Naby Keita yet.”Anfield Watch Verdict
Keita certainly has talent. The midfielder found the back of the net 17 times and registered 15 assists in 71 appearances for RB Leipzig's first-team.
Ted Knutson, former Head of Player Analytics for Brentford and Midtjylland, had plenty of good things to say about Keita before he joined Liverpool.
“His skill set is extremely rare, and elite skill sets—especially for all-rounders—tend to command huge transfer fees in football,” Knutson told Goal.
“Given his age, production, and fit for that particular style of play, I could easily see a team setting the Bundesliga transfer record right now.
“If he plays regularly, that could certainly feel like good business a couple of years down the line.
“There are a lot of good midfielders out there, but none who is quite like Keita.”
Therefore, we aren't prepared to give up on Keita just yet. But, the 27-year-old needs to stay fit and peform or his Liverpool career could be over in a flash.
Keita's contract expires in the summer of 2023, which means that he is running out of time to prove his worth.
