"You have to react" - Jurgen Klopp on how Liverpool improved their squad this summer

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has recently talked about the 2022 summer transfer window.

Speaking to Sky Sports, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Klopp spoke about why he has brought in new faces ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

"How can you keep going? How can you improve a world class football team? It's by training, obviously - we believe in that a lot - but as well in bringing new players in. We need fresh blood," he said.

“A new dynamic, fresh desire to create a team full of excitement and determination for the things coming. Sometimes you do it exactly like you want and sometimes you have to react on a situation like when Sadio (Mane) told us that he wants to move on.

“We have to replace him, he's a pretty good player. Thankfully we could do that already in the window by bringing in Luis (Diaz) and now Darwin (Nunez). Fabio (Carvalho) is a very exciting player.

"I'm really looking forward to it. It was always clear changes had to be made and I know for supporters it's, 'Oh my god he left how can we do this?'. I'm really excited about the new opportunity we've got."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Losing Mane this summer is not ideal because he is a world-class winger. But, we always thought it was likely, especially with the original 'front three' all entering the final year of their contracts with the Reds at the end of last season.

Mane's departure forced the club into signing a replacement (Nunez). Liverpool have lacked a genuine No.9 for the entire Klopp era, so the Senegal international leaving has provided us with one positive.

Klopp has recruited really well, so hopefully Mane's absence isn't too obvious. Only time will tell if that is to be the case.

Liverpool's first game of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign is against Fulham at Craven Cottage on the 6th of August.
