"You can see him shouting" - Shay Given on Jordan Henderson's leadership
Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given has waxed lyrical about Jordan Henderson's leadership.
The midfielder has been the club's captain since 2015. Henderson has led Liverpool to the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, League Cup and FA Cup.
So, the 31-year-old has been a pretty successful captain. Therefore, Given's latest comments about Henderson have not come as a shock to us.
“Look at Arsenal (against Newcastle earlier this week), they haven’t enough leaders on the pitch,” he told Premier League Productions, as quoted by HITC.
“But Jordan Henderson strikes me as a person, who off the pitch and on the pitch, you can see him shouting.
“I played with Roy Keane with Ireland. Making demands with people around you, get the best out of the people and pull people in.
“Even himself, he has been on a bit of a journey. When Kenny Dalglish first signed him, the fans were on his back, but to see that tweet, he has lifted six major trophies, it’s just a phenomenal journey.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Henderson has not just been a great leader for Liverpool, but he has also been a great player for the Reds.
The midfielder has found the back of the net 33 times and registered 58 assists in 447 appearances for the club's first-team.
Henderson has been in pretty good form this season. The England international has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.80 across the 2021-22 campaign (55 appearances).
Henderson, 31, is contracted until June 2025. Therefore, it would be fair to assume that he will finish his career at Anfield.
It will be a sad day when Henderson leaves Liverpool. He will always be remembered as a legend of the club.
