Former Manchester City player Yaya Toure has ranked Mohamed Salah among some of Africa's greatest ever players.

The former Man City and Barcelona midfielder was himself one of Africa's most high-profile stars, excelling in the Premier League in the early 2010s.

Unfortunately for Liverpool. the Ivory Coast international was particularly prolific during the 2013/14 campaign, scoring 20 goals and producing nine assists in the Premier League.

Yaya Toure, whose brother Kolo played for Liverpool during that campaign, helped propel Man City to the Premier League title, fending off competition from Brendan Rodgers' Reds.

At an event with publication GOAL, Toure was asked a series of difficult questions regarding some immense African talents, including a blind ranking of five of the continent's greats.

Toure initially put Salah second in his rankings, before pushing the Egyptian down to third in favour of compatriot Didier Drogba and Cameroon and former Everton forward Samuel Eto'o in joint first.

The midfielder then ranked ex-Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu in fourth and Jay-Jay Okocha in fifth, although Toure admits that he would have really liked to put the latter in second.

Salah will feel hard done by not to be number one on the list, especially given he's the highest scoring African player in the Premier League and Champions League.

Liverpool's No. 11 has 153 goals and 67 assists in 251 Premier League appearances, whereas Drogba has just 101 goals and 55 assists in 254 appearances in the division.

Salah is currently playing for Egypt in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as he searches for his first international trophy for his country.
