Xabi Alonso: Timeline set for huge decision on Liverpool job

Xabi Alonso reportedly has a timeline in mind for his massive decision on the Liverpool job. The Spaniard is a wanted man.

Guillem Balague understands that Xabi Alonso wants to decide on his future within the next three to four weeks. This comes as Alonso has a series of elite clubs chasing him.

Liverpool were the first to properly join the race, with news of Jurgen Klopp's upcoming departure triggering immediate interest in the Spaniard. Bayern Munich soon formed competition, however, with the decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel this summer.

And then there's Bayer Leverkusen - they certainly don't want to lose their manager. Not to mention that waiting it out for another year with Leverkusen would put Alonso in the frame for the Real Madrid job.

It's an enormous decision, then, and Balague believes there isn't too much longer to wait.

"Xabi Alonso is determined to choose his future in the next 3-4 weeks," he wrote on X. "Nothing is decided yet, nothing at all.

"First, four big games ahead to be played (Hoffenheim in the league, semis of the cup against Dusserldorf, Union Berlin in the league, quarters of the EL vs West Ham).

"Then the idea is to take the decision about his future after those results The pros and cons of every team that is interested in him have been considered, and he will take the next step that “he feels” is the right one (a mixture of intuition, logic and consideration of family)."

Xabi Alonso is in huge demand

It's not exactly difficult to figure out why clubs are lining up to hire Alonso. He's currently leading Leverkusen through an undefeated season, which is an absolutely mad thing to be saying at the end of March.

They're massive favourites to win the Bundesliga, ending a dominance from Bayern Munich that stretches back to 2013. In fact, he'd be the first manager to win the title for a club that isn't Bayern since Jurgen Klopp did it in 2012 with Borussia Dortmund.

Only one club can get him, though, leaving the others to find alternatives. Alonso is going to make one set of fans incredibly happy with year - and some others bitterly disappointed.
