"World-class player" - Jurgen Klopp on footballer he sold this summer
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given his verdict on ex-Red Sadio Mane.
The club sold the winger to Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of £28.80 million earlier this summer.
Mane was a terrific player for the Reds. The Senegal international scored 120 goals and registered 49 assists in 269 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
Mane also helped the club win six major trophies. So, we weren't surprised to hear Klopp speak positively about the 30-year-old during a recent interview.
“Sadio is a world-class player. It was always clear that we were going to miss him. But this is not our problem now. Unfortunately, we also played bad games with Sadio. Not ‘so’ bad, but bad," he told TV 2, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.
“I especially understand that the Liverpool fans want to discuss it, want solutions and things like that. But trust me, we have worked on solutions, and now we have the opportunity to show that we have understood it, and that we will react.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We do miss watching Mane play for Liverpool. But, the winger wanted a new challenge. That's how football goes sometimes.
Mane has had a reasonable start to his Bayern Munich career. The Senegal international has scored five goals in 10 appearances for the Bundesliga side.
Klopp still has plenty of quality attacking options at his disposal (Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino).
So, Liverpool should consistently find the back of the net for the remainder of the season.
