"Will not be triggered" - Fabrizio Romano provides transfer update regarding Reds
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided a transfer update on Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo.
The Reds signed the 26-year-old from Juventus on a season-long loan just as the 2022-23 campaign got underway.
However, Melo has only made one appearance for Liverpool's first-team so far.
The Brazilian recently suffered an injury. Melo will reportedly be out of action for three to four months.
With that being the case, Romano has revealed that Liverpool have no intentions of signing the midfielder on a permanent basis.
Speaking on YouTube (00:38), he said the following: “The buy option for Arthur will not be triggered by Liverpool. It’s a loan with a buy option, not mandatory in this case. The buy option is around £37.5m. But the main problem with Arthur is the injuries. He’s been having too many injuries.
“In this case, it’s something that is surprising to Liverpool as they signed him on deadline day because they had many injuries in midfield.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Melo was brought in as a bit of cover, so it doesn't surprise us that Liverpool won't be signing him on a permanent basis.
The midfielder does have a pretty average record when it comes to injuries. We can see why Liverpool are staying clear of securing Melo's services on a long-term contract.
The Reds have had a troubled start to the 2022-23 campaign. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what Liverpool do in the upcoming summer transfer window.
