"Will consider a midfielder" - Fabrizio Romano on Jurgen Klopp's plans

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will consider signing a midfielder if an opportunity arises in the market.

The Reds do possess plenty of depth in the middle of the park (Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott).

However, Klopp will attempt to sign a midfielder in the near future if he can attract the right type of player.

“Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool will consider a new midfielder if there is an opportunity on the market," he told Caught Offside, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

“I believe that Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes is a very interesting player who could be a good fit for this team, but we need to see the amount that the club will be prepared to invest.”

Both Henderson and Thiago are in their 30s. So, Liverpool will have to invest in their midfield some time soon.

Nunes would be a decent signing. The midfielder has scored seven goals and registered nine assists in 100 appearances for Sporting Lisbon.

Nunes also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.08 across 33 league appearances last season. The aforementioned figures highlight that the Portugal international is a talented player.

Nunes is only 23 years of age, which means that he is far from the finished article. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has a superb track record of developing young players.

Nunes' contract expires in the summer of 2026. He possesses a current market value of £31.50 million.

But, only time will tell if Liverpool are to make a move for the midfielder.
