Why Ryan Gravenberch won't be able to make his debut against Aston Villa

Liverpool completed the Deadline Day signing of Ryan Gravenberch to much fan adulation on Friday - however, he will have to wait to make his debut for the club.

The saga surrounding Gravenberch went to the wire - signing for £34m from Bayern Munich, the highly-rated midfielder was announced as a Liverpool player with just an hour until the 11pm transfer deadline.

Having trained with his teammates for the first time on Saturday afternoon, some may have hoped he was gearing up for a debut appearance against Aston Villa on Sunday.

However, due to the lateness of the deal's completion, Liverpool missed the cut-off to register Gravenberch in time for this weekend's match.

This means that Gravenberch will in all likelihood make his debut after the September international break, when Liverpool make the trip to Molineux to face Wolves on Saturday, September 16.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman is raring to go at Liverpool, and has success firmly in his sights.

“I’m really looking forward to [being at Anfield] and I can’t wait to hear the 'You’ll Never Walk Alone' song,” the Reds’ new No.38 told the club's website.

“Now we start fresh again, a new start, and I’m going to give my all for this club. [My ambitions are] to win prizes. To win prizes, play a lot and show them who we are and who I am.”

And while Gravenberch won't be able to feature for Jurgen Klopp's side against Villa, he is excited to watch his new team in action from the stands.

"I'm very excited and very looking forward to it," he added.

"I want to say, on Sunday I can't wait to be there."
