Why Bayern Munich's interest in Aurelien Tchouameni could be good for Liverpool
Real Madrid midfielder and one-time Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni has emerged as a transfer option for Bayern Munich.
According to Kerry Hau of Sport1, Thomas Tuchel has held exploratory talks to sign the France international, who "could imagine" a move to Munich if he's not guaranteed a starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Bavarian giants have reportedly put Leon Goretzka on the transfer market this summer, while Joshua Kimmich's future has even come under question in recent days.
Tuchel reportedly wanted to sign Tchouameni at Chelsea and believes the 22-year-old is the perfect candidate for the 'number six' role at Bayern. Liverpool have also been linked with Tchouameni as a replacement for Fabinho, having first tried to land the player last year before his transfer to Madrid.
Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano poured cold water over claims that Tchouameni could join the Reds, with the Italian journalist claiming that the midfielder is not for sale this summer. Meanwhile, the player himself was spotted liking a tweet distancing him from a move to Anfield.
However, with Bayern Munich now in the mix, it remains to be seen if Tchouameni will be tempted to move. While his preference may be to stay in Madrid, he is no longer a guaranteed starter for Los Blancos, with the European Championships just one year away.
A big offer could also be appealing to Real Madrid, who may wish to raise capital for a tilt at Kylian Mbappe next year.
While it would be disappointing for Liverpool to see Bayern have more joy in wooing Tchouameni, there could be a silver lining for the Reds.
If Tchouameni does become a credible target for Tuchel's side, the Bavarians could soften their stance on Ryan Gravenberch.
The Netherlands international is reportedly also on Liverpool's midfield shortlist, but with Bayern currently lacking quality options in midfield, they've been reluctant to part ways with the ex-Ajax man after just one season at the club. Much like Liverpool, Bayern Munich could be set for a midfield overhaul this summer and their transfer business could have direct implications on the Reds' plans.
As well as Gravenberch, Liverpool have been linked with Romeo Lavia, Kalvin Phillips and Sofyan Amrabat among several others.
