Arne Slot did not like what he was seeing as his Liverpool side took on Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup. The Dutchman was 'disgusted', in fact.

Liverpool travelled to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening in the EFL Cup. Arne Slot named a strong lineup for the fixture, too, with both Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah starting.

But this certainly wasn't a repeat of the big Premier League win over Spurs. The Reds struggled badly to get a foothold in the game from the get-go.

Spurs pressed high and successfully, too. Liverpool, on the other hand, failed to find any real passing rhythm.

Things were better in the second half, admittedly, but not by much. Spurs just had the better of Liverpool here when it came to the tactical battle.

But that's not to say Liverpool's players had an excuse. They simply weren't good enough with the ball - and that had the manager raging.

Arne Slot reacts badly to Liverpool

Arne Slot certainly wasn't happy in the first half. He was spotted reacting to his side's struggles in a 'rare' way.

"Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is normally a calm figure in his technical area and has rarely had any cause to express his displeasure this season but he is visibly unhappy with aspects of this display so far," Phil McNulty pointed out for the BBC.

"He has just turned around to his backroom staff in disgust after another sloppy passage of play. A rare sight in this campaign."

And few could blame him in that first half. Liverpool weren't at the races - perhaps a mix of the changes at the back with the intense fixture against Manchester United on Sunday.

Either way, Slot hasn't had too many reasons to be frustrated with Liverpool this season. This was undoubtedly one of those games, though - particularly in that first half.
