When will Anfield Road Stand be fully re-opened?

Work on Liverpool's Anfield Road Stand is set to resume, after further delays were caused when the firm contracted to oversee the project went into administration earlier this summer.

With the redevelopment already behind schedule, Liverpool were forced to start the 2023/24 season with a reduced capacity.

While Anfield was able to house fans in the lower part of the Anfield Road Stand for the first home game of the Premier League season (the 3-1 win over Bournemouth), the upper tier remained unfinished, with Liverpool suffering the financial sting of reduced-capacity attendance. This continued into the second home fixture against Aston Villa.

Both games had attendances of around 50,000 – around 11,000 below the eventual capacity, once work is completed.

Three weeks after the Buckingham Group – the contractor tasked with overseeing the project – created further headaches for Liverpool when they went into administration, Liverpool announced the appointment of Rayner Rowen Construction, along with other contractors, to take over the work and complete the project.

How long with Anfield Road Stand be at reduced capacity?

A club statement on Thursday confirmed that the upper tier of the Anfield Road Stand will remain completely shut for at least the next three home fixtures, with plans to incrementally increase attendances from the the next games.

The statement reads: "Work will begin now to fully assess the construction programme and Rayner Rowen will work swiftly with our internal team to produce a revised project completion programme, which will give us certainty on capacity and phasing.

"We will update on this revised completion programme as quickly as possible. In the meantime, some workers have returned to the site to continue some immediate works.

"For the West Ham United, Leicester City and Union SG fixtures, the capacity of Anfield will be the same as the opening two games of the season against AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa, meaning the upper tier of the new Anfield Road Stand will remain closed.

"It is anticipated that the additional capacity at Anfield will be incrementally phased in after the next three home games. We do not expect any impact on the continued operation of the existing Anfield Road Stand, which has remained in use throughout the development so far.

"Our thoughts are with all those employees and contractors who face uncertainty at this time. Working with Rayner Rowen Construction, we will seek to engage as many of Buckingham’s existing sub-contractors going forward as we are reasonably able to."

When will Liverpool play at full capacity?

With plans to incrementally phase in the additional capacity after the next three home fixtures, Liverpool will likely not have a full house for the Merseyside Derby on 21 October.

The next games after that include the Europa League visit of Toulouse (26 October) and the Premier League tie against Nottingham Forest (29 October).

As yet, it is unclear when exactly Anfield will see its first full capacity game of the season
