"When they moved to Anfield" - Kenny Dalglish on who Darwin Nunez can look up to

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has recently spoken about new-boy Darwin Nunez.

The Reds signed the centre-forward from Benfica for a transfer fee of €100 million earlier this summer.

Dalglish believes that Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are two players Nunez can look up to for a bit of inspiration as he begins his Liverpool career.

“Liverpool added Darwin Nunez from Benfica. Having sold Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, Darwin is an excellent option,” he wrote in his SP column.

“I watched him play against us for Benfica in the Champions League quarter-final tie at Anfield last season. He looked extremely accomplished at centre-forward, but equally as good when he played out on the left-hand side. It was as if he was having an audition for Liverpool that night!

“He has started pre-season very well, and has scored four goals. But we can’t expect that from him every time he pulls on his boots. Darwin is only 22, and everyone needs to be mindful of that. Certainly, however, his start this summer will do him no harm.

“He only has to look at Diaz and Jota for inspiration for the way they hit the ground running when they moved to Anfield.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Dalglish's take. Diaz and Jota are two forwards who arrived at Anfield and hit the ground running.

We are hoping that Nunez can do the same. There is always a settling in period for any new player.

But, Diaz and Jota have shown that you can adapt quickly. If Nunez features against Fulham at Craven Cottage this weekend, hopefully he can take his chance.

It will be interesting to see who Jurgen Klopp selects to start against the Cottagers. The Premier League clash, which is Liverpool's first of the season, will kick-off at 12:30pm on Saturday.
