"When I signed the deal" - Sami Hyypia opens up on his time at Anfield
Former Red Sami Hyypia has recently opened up on his time at Anfield.
The club signed the centre-back from Willem II for a transfer fee of €3.90 million back in the summer of 1999.
Hyypia went on to make 464 appearances for Liverpool's first-team. The defender also won 10 major trophies with the Reds.
Hyypia departed Liverpool in 2009 and eventually retired from professional football in 2011.
The former Red has revealed that his time at Anfield brings back a lot of good memories.
As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Hyypia told the Liverpool Echo the following: “Liverpool was my favourite team when I was young, so it was a dream come true. When I signed the deal, I thought it was only the beginning and that I needed to show people I could play football. "If someone said to me I would spend 10 years playing for this great club on the day I signed, I would have said they were mad. I had great years here and I'm thinking of those with a lot of happiness."Anfield Watch Verdict
As we have already pointed out, Hyypia was a fine player for the Reds. You don't make over 400 appearances for a club like Liverpool unless you are very good at football.
The aforementioned comments from Hyypia highlight that he never took a day for granted during his time at Anfield.
The 48-year-old was one of those footballers that cared deeply about the club. With that being the case, Hyypia is one of our favourite Liverpool players of all time.
The man gave it his all during his time as a Red, which is all you can ask. Therefore, you won't find a Liverpool supporter that dislikes Hyypia.
