Therefore Liverpool need 93 points to GUARANTEE the Premier League title this season. And that’s assuming Arsenal win every match until then. Which they won’t.

The Reds are currently top of the table on 56 points after 23 matches and have got 15 games left to play.

Next up is the rescheduled Merseyside Derby versus Everton at Goodison Park and, depending on the outcome of that game next week, we will have a clearer picture of the requirements to win the league.

Liverpool can get a maximum of 101 points but won’t need all those to win the title considering Arsenal are currently six behind and have played a game more.

Arsenal nowhere near close enough

They need 37 more points from their remaining 15 matches to clinch the title beyond doubt, meaning 12 wins and a draw will suffice or else any other combination reaching 37 points from this moment onwards.

Liverpool will face Arsenal on matchday 36 at Anfield in a game which could have a huge bearing on the destiny of the title; that’s if the Reds haven’t wrapped it up by then.

Arsenal need to win every game between now and then to stand a chance; if Liverpool win all 12 from now until then, they will be on 92 by the time the game rolls around and a draw against the Gunners should seal it.

If Liverpool embark on that run - and Arsenal fail to match it - then they will win the title even sooner.

One caveat should be that as well as the Arsenal game at home, the Reds must visit Everton, Man City, Aston Villa and Chelsea.

If the worst case scenario is Liverpool losing all four of those tough away games then they can still reach 89 points, only three behind Arsenal's remaining maximum total.

The Reds have currently won close to 74 percent of their Premier League matches this season and Arsenal’s total is 58 percent.

Arteta’s side will need to up their total to over 73 percent in order to get to their maximum points total. They have earned 2.08 points per game so far this season, leaving them on track for 79 points if they continue on that trajectory.

Arsenal have won nine and drawn five of their last 14 matches since losing to Newcastle in November. That’s their longest-ever unbeaten run under Arteta. But even that form isn’t good enough to catch the Reds, who are in a dominant position in the title race.

Their points per game total is up to 2.29 over those 14 matches but still way off what’s required. Going on that pace, they will end up around 82 points.

That means even allowing for some away defeats, unlikely given that they've only lost one of 23 matches so far, Liverpool should still comfortably see off their closest challengers.
