It just had to be him, didn't it?

After a week defined by family turmoil back home, Luis Diaz came off the bench on his return to action to salvage a point for Liverpool, saving his team from humiliation at Luton.

Many doubted whether Diaz would be included in the matchday squad this afternoon, just eight days after his parents were abducted in Columbia by guerrilla insurgency group ELN.

While his mother was freed hours after the initial kidnapping, his father has remained in captivity since, with the Colombian police and military continuing the search.

Desperate to play

Despite experiencing such a traumatic time as of late, Diaz wanted to be involved in today's game - and would end up being the decisive factor for Liverpool, coming off the bench to to equalise in the 95th minute.

While his initial celebrations were muted, he revealed a message underneath his shirt, dedicated to the fight to free his father.

The shirt read: "Libertad Para Papa" - translated in English as 'Freedom for Dad'.

"A wonderful moment"

Reflecting on the tribute, Jurgen Klopp has once again insisted that the freedom of Diaz's father must now be brought.

"A wonderful moment but it doesn't change the situation. Most important thing is that his father gets released," Klopp said.

"It is wonderful he wanted to be here. That's it, for us a super important goal and for him very important and emotional, but that's it."

An incredibly emotionally charged moment that will live long in our memories.
