"We won’t be going there" - Jurgen Klopp shuts down crazy transfer rumour
Jurgen Klopp has shut down rumours linking Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland with a potential move to Anfield next summer.
Speaking to SportBild, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Klopp has said that the Reds won't be signing Haaland this summer as the numbers involved are 'crazy'.
"We won’t be going there. The numbers involved are just crazy – we’ll be having nothing to do with it," said Klopp.
"No chance! To be honest, I don’t want anything to do with it. It’s not fun.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Even though Haaland would be a perfect signing for a Klopp side, the money involved is stupid.
According to BILD, as cited by theMadridZone's Twitter account, the total cost to sign the Norwegian this upcoming summer would be €355m.
BILD have also broken down why it would cost that much to sign the 21-year-old.
€75m + €10m add-ons will go to Borussia Dortmund, as well as €40m in wages for five years, €40m commission to his agent Mino Raiola and €30m commission to his father Alf-Inge.
We know that Liverpool have dealt with greedy agents before, we're currently dealing with Mohamed Salah's at the moment, but that is absurd.
How any club can justify €70m to his father and agent is ridiculous. In today's market that could sign you two very good footballers.
I truly believe that if the agent and family fees weren't involved, Liverpool would be in the race to sign Haaland. His release clause isn't outrageous and his wages also are feasible for a player of his calibre.
However, I think we can put this rumour to bed now as Klopp has publically said that Liverpool will not be paying the unbelievable price package it would cost to bring Haaland to Anfield.
Unfortunately, according to numerous reports, it looks like the 21-year-old is destined for a move to the Premier League as Pep Guardiola's Manchester City look set to complete this signing next summer.
As a Liverpool fan, hopefully he doesn't carry his form over as Haaland in this Manchester City side is a very scary prospect indeed.
