"We still don't buy players - You know the answer!" - Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp seemed to have had enough of questions about signing players for Liverpool in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Reds trip to Brighton.

The 55-year-old German seemed to be riled by questions about whether or not Liverpool would dip into the transfer market, with a growing injury list and Uruguayan Darwin Nunez being the latest player to be ruled out for Klopp's side ahead of their trip to the Amex Stadium.

"I have to talk about it because you ask me about it, so that's it.

"What could be the reason? That we have money like crazy, and we still don't buy players? You know the answer!"

KLOPP SEEMS FRUSTRATED

It is clear why journalists need to ask these questions to the manager. Liverpool sit in 7th in the Premier League and are 7 points off the Champions League places and go into this weekend's fixture against Roberto De Zerbi's Brighton on the back of a 3-1 away defeat at Brentford and a 2-2 draw against Wolves in the FA Cup, with the replay being played on Tuesday 17th January. Not to mention the growing injury list that contains the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, with Nunez now ruled out of today's game with a hamstring injury. You also have to take into account that Liverpool fans are crying out for new additions - in particularly midfield, where the Reds have often been exposed this season.

BRIGHTON ARE A GOOD TEAM

Speaking in his press conference, Klopp reiterated that this would be an important game for his side, but also noted that De Zerbi's side will be treated with respect.

"All the games are really important and it's a very, very important game for us for different reasons."

"Brighton requires a specific kind of respect because I don't think anyone underestimates them anymore, but it's still important to know [who] they are, and who would have thought that the possession stats could increase after [Graham] Potter happened? Mr De Zerbi obviously loves to have the ball as well, so they are really playing good stuff and full of confidence."

"If we could get something there, we had to dig in really deep and that's what we have to do again and that's the plan."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

I can understand Jurgen Klopp's frustrations - he is constantly asked whether Liverpool will spend money to strengthen the squad. But you could also argue he himself is being rather stubborn in the fact that he thinks a current midfield of Fabinho, Harvey Elliott and Thiago with Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones is a strength in depth midfield - is this enough to get back into the top four and try to win the Champions League? Debatable. But if FSG are selling, then who knows what will happen - but I do strongly believe that the Reds will sign a midfielder this window.
