"We fell in love" - Jurgen Klopp on watching Darwin Nunez play

Jurgen Klopp has been talking about what Darwin Nunez can bring to his Liverpool side next season.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the Reds boss said that he and his coaching staff "fell in love" with the Uruguayan striker when he faced off against the Reds in the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

“It was really a joy to watch him and so when we realised we had a good chance to sign him, we were all-in and we’re really happy he’s here now," he said, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

“It was massively impressive when he played in front of us. When you prepare Benfica, you know up to the size of shoes – we know absolutely everything about an opponent, so we know exactly about the quality of Darwin.

“It was not clear if he would play because he came back from internationals, in the first game that was. It was clear that he was really good. But when you see it then live, it was really impressive.

“The power and the mix-up with technique, the desire, smart moves, the problems he caused us. We fell all in love in these two games. A very aggressive South American, it’s a good thing!"

Anfield Watch Verdict

I think most of the Liverpool fanbase has already fallen in love with Nunez.

It was a massive risk paying €100 million for the 23-year-old, but when you hear the way Klopp talks about him, you can tell the German rates him so highly.

Nunez seems like the player Klopp has been searching for. It's not often that the 55-year-old's signings fail and I'd be very surprised if the Uruguayan doesn't impress at Anfield next season.

Nunez is currently with the team in Thailand for pre-season. Therefore, it looks like his first Liverpool game will be against bitter rivals Manchester United.

There isn't a better way to announce yourself as a Liverpool player than scoring against the Red Devils, so hopefully that happens on Tuesday!
