"We deserved to win" - Mohamed Salah on the Champions League final
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah believes that the Reds deserved to win the 2022 Champions League final.
Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 at the Stade de France. Vinicius Junior scored after 59 minutes of action to give the La Liga side the lead.
However, Salah believes that the result should have been very different.
“We deserved to win, we had more chances, I got two or three quite big ones but, each time, Thibaut Courtois made incredible saves,” the Egyptian told L’Equipe, as quoted by the Evening Standard.
“It’s his job, Real recruited him for that. He earned his Man of the Match award. It was his evening.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Salah is coming from. Liverpool certainly looked more dangerous in attack during the Champions League final.
But, the reality is, the Reds failed to score. Therefore, you can't say that Liverpool deserved to win the game.
However, we are confident that Jurgen Klopp's side can play in another European Cup final.
Liverpool have played in three Champions League finals under the German. They have shown no signs of dropping off.
Liverpool competed for the quadruple last season, which backs up the aforementioned argument.
Klopp has even said that he is confident his side will be back.
As quoted by This Is Anfield, he told BT Sport the following after losing to Real Madrid: “It’s not hard (to find perspective). I have that already, but to be 100 percent honest I’m the only one in the dressing room.
“I know when we lost against Sevilla in Basel, or (to Real) in Kyiv, (I felt) it’s not bad to get final.
“It’s obviously a different kind of success, not the success you want to have, but I have the strong feeling we come again.
“That’s how it is. The boys are really competitive, we have an outstanding group together, we will again have an outstanding group together and then we go again.
“Obviously we have to try a bit more often than others, but no problem. Where is it next year? Istanbul. Book the hotel!”
We love Klopp's confidence and faith in his team.
