"We could have scored a fourth" - Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool's 3-1 win over Benfica
Liverpool came away from the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica 3-1 victors but Jurgen Klopp thinks the Reds should've scored more.
Speaking in his post-match interview, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Liverpool's manager said that his team could've scored a fourth in the dying minutes.
"We could have scored a fourth, that would have been nice but we are not in dreamland here! They will go for it again at Anfield. They did it at Ajax. We are aware of their quality," said Klopp.
"We usually score more [in those situations] but we didn't, mainly because the goalie, credit to him, and that is pretty much the story. We could have scored in the last minute, 4-1 would be nice but we are not in dreamland here."
Despite heading back to Anfield with a two-goal cushion, Klopp insists that this tie is not over and Benfica can still advance to the semi-finals, as cited by Anfield Watch.
"The tie is not over," said Klopp. "We know it. I wish we didn’t give them their opportunity but that’s football, they deserved it. It’s away, it's a UCL quarter-final. If it’s easy then the competition is wrong.
"Benfica didn't get to the quarter-finals as a present, they came through a tough group and then beat Ajax. They will go for it."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Even though Liverpool were unbelievable in the first-half, their second-half display had a lot of fans on the edge of their seats.
The fluidity seemed to disappear and despite an amazing first-half by Ibrahima Konate, his mistake gave the 65 thousand Benfica fans hope once again.
However, Klopp's side are one of the best teams in the world at seeing a result out. With the stadium at full voice and Benfica on the front foot, he probably would've been happy with a 2-1 win.
Fortunately, Luis Diaz had other ideas and his late goal has turned the tide in this tie. Hopefully, the Reds can take advantage of that goal and put in a good performance at Anfield to take us through to a Champions League semi-final.
