"We can't control" - Steven Gerrard on the title race

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has given his thoughts on the 2021-22 Premier League title race.

Heading into the final day (Sunday), Liverpool are one-point behind league leaders Manchester City.

With that being the case, the Reds will need a favour from Aston Villa if they are to claim the title.

Of course, Liverpool will still have to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

But, Gerrard said that he is focused on claiming the three points for the Aston Villa supporters at the Etihad Stadium.

He told BBC Sport: “Our supporters deserve it (a good performance against Manchester City on Sunday). We’re 14th.

“The fans have been incredible, following us near and far. The least we can do is try to make them proud.

”We can’t control people asking us questions (about the title race). We just have to focus on preparing in the best way we can. There are three points to play for.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

With Gerrard being a Liverpool legend, there is obviously a lot of focus on the Scouser potentially helping the Reds claim the Premier League title.

But, the reality is, if Liverpool don't claim the title, it won't be Gerrard's fault. The Reds have dropped points in 10 fixtures this season.

Had Jurgen Klopp's side been a bit more efficient, they would be in pole position to win the trophy. So, all we can do is hope that Liverpool defeat Wolves and Aston Villa take points off Manchester City on Sunday.

Regardless of what happens, the Reds still have the Champions League final to look forward to. Liverpool will face Real Madrid in Paris on the 28th of May.

There has never been a better time to be a Red.
