"We cannot win everything in just one game" - Jürgen Klopp on title race

Jürgen Klopp has his sights firmly fixed onto Wednesday night's game against Leeds United after dismissing the idea that the title race would go down to Liverpool’s fixture against Manchester City.

Klopp stated "We cannot win everything in just one game, we just try to win a very difficult Premier League game. We saw all the faces of Leeds on Sunday - they are very brave and very exciting offensively."

The Liverpool manager added that “we have so many games to play” clearly wanting to keep expectations on the ground, taking one game at a time.

"One minute after the Norwich game, it's over and we think about Leeds and so much can happen in football. It's six points and we play Leeds. Leeds are fighting to stay in this league and they really never give up. We have a lot of work to do."

Jurgen Klopp mentioned in his press conference how he had followed Spurs’ victory against Manchester City at the Etihad, describing his reaction when he heard it was 3-2, he presumed Pep Guardiola’s table-topping side had won.

"I was on the way home when it was 2-1 Spurs. When I arrived at home, I didn't follow it as I was sure they would equalize. Then the driver was very excited. When he said 3-2, I thought City had won."

But despite that, Klopp is not taking anything for granted, "Nothing has changed, really. We need to win all of our games. We expect that [City will win their games]. We play them once, that's one we definitely want to win."

Manchester City don’t play until Saturday evening where they face a resurgent Everton side at Goodison Park led by new manager Frank Lampard.

The Reds will have the opportunity to cut the gap at the top of the table to just 3 points.

But in Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds side they face a tough enemy despite the poor league form which has seen Leeds slip to fifteenth in the division, not to mention having the second-worst goal difference out of all 20 teams.

Leeds conceded four goals in Sunday’s defeat against Manchester United, culminating in a total of 50 league goals shipped in this season, the club’s worst ever total at this stage of the year.

They will have to battle Liverpool without midfielder Robin Koch who suffered a head injury against Manchester United whilst deputizing for the injured Kalvin Phillips.

Anfield Watch Verdict

With the chance to play before Manchester City, Liverpool have a golden opportunity to increase the pressure on the league leaders but Leeds are always a tricky team to play, despite their current form, which doesn’t reflect the quality of a team which finished 9^th in the Premier League after promotion from the Championship last year.

Whilst Marcelo Bielsa is under pressure, that may make them more dangerous. The Argentinian retorted to the media at his 30-minute-long press conference today “I said all of this to explain because we have conceded 50 goals. Second most conceded in the league. I have to account for this because I am responsible.”

Bielsa said it was “impossible to answer” when asked how he would stop Liverpool.

Concluding that “As in every game, preventing their attacks from damaging us and making our attacks damage them.”
