Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has given his prediction for next Sunday's Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

With eight games left, the Citizens are currently one-point ahead of Liverpool on the table. Chelsea sit in third-place, but are 13 points behind the Reds.

Therefore, some people believe that next weekend's Premier League match between the Citizens and the Reds could be the title decider.

Rooney is confident that Liverpool can cope with the pressure of the fixture and claim a victory.

“I wish none of them (Manchester City or Liverpool) was there (in the title race) to be honest,” he jokingly told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports because of his connection to Manchester United, as quoted by The Boot Room.

“But I think it could go either way. Liverpool are on a great run of form, as City are, but I think Liverpool can go there and win.”

Liverpool secured a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at Anfield earlier this season. Reds forward Mohamed Salah scored a world-class goal on the day. You can watch highlights of the clash below.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool have not defeated Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium since 2018.

So, recent history does suggest that the Reds will have to play well if they are to defeat Manchester City next weekend.

If the Reds are slightly off, the Citizens will more than likely expose them. Pep Guardiola's side sit at the top of the table for a reason.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side has won big matches before. The 2019 Champions League final is the standout.

So, we are backing them to get the job done against Manchester City. But, only time will tell what the result will be.
