Vitor Matos talks up quality of Liverpool academy

Liverpool development coach Vitor Matos has said that the Reds' academy is doing an 'outstanding job' as the youngsters at the club continue to push for first-team chances.

The weekend saw a number of young faces representing Liverpool, alongside some of the senior pros like Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Fabinho.

Indeed, the 4-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup will have proven to be a particularly positive experience for the young players that took to the field, and the hope has to be that more young players are going to break through and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harvey Elliott.

On the academy, Matos said:

“I believe the Academy is doing an outstanding job and we just need to look at the players that they are bringing through, not only for the first team but for other clubs in the professional leagues. That’s a clear sign of quality in the process.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Great work is being done right through the club from the recruitment team right down to the youth level and off and on the pitch things seem to be running well.

It's good to hear Matos' take on things, too, and hopefully there are more good youngsters coming along the way.

Kaide Gordon could be the next to watch, too, with him scoring a well taken goal at the weekend.
