Virgil van Dijk's dream 5-a-side team might be unbeatable
Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has named his ultimate five-a-side team, and it is something to behold.
Honestly, no notes.
The big Dutchman is used to playing alongside top talent and was always going to go for the big hitters when asked for his selection by FIFPRO.
Van Dijk went a familiar base, picking his Liverpool teammate Alisson Becker – who he described as the best keeper he's ever played with – between the sticks and himself as the sole defender.
He said: "In goal, I'd go with Alisson Becker, obviously my goalkeeper at Liverpool.
"What a goalkeeper, what a guy. He's achieved so much already and I think he's definitely the best goalkeeper I've played with.
"So he will be in goal, hopefully saving any chances.
"[in defence] I'm going to put myself just because I would love to play in this team. That's the only reason."
Van Dijk then opted out of going for a traditional midfielder, instead packing his team with three of the best South American flair players of all time.
"On the left, Ronaldinho, my idol, the legend," he continued. 'The guy I always looked up to when I was young and i tried to recreate in the streets because I played a lot of football in the streets back then when I was young and he is definitely the one that I would love to be playing with.
"On the right I'll put Lionel Messi. Arguably one of the best players of all time, so I don't need to say to much to be fair.
"And as a striker I'll put Ronaldo. The Brazilian Ronaldo just because he had it all. Unfortunately, he also had problems with injuries but the presence he had, the goals he scored, the finishes. Also knowing he played in Holland for a little bit."
In the real world, Van Dijk has been in superb form so far in 2023/24, helping the Reds to the top of the Premier League table after 19 games.
