Virgil van Dijk proves his class again with incredible goalscoring stats

Virgil van Dijk has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence with Liverpool this season.

The Dutchman, by his own admission, had been performing well below his best last campaign and had struggled to meet the lofty standards he set himself during prior seasons.

The 32-year-old seemed to have hit his peak and was on a downward spiral in terms of consistency and quality, but the Liverpool skipper has proved his doubters wrong this term.

Virgil van Dijk has been back to his imperious best for the Reds as they continue their hunt for a potential quadruple and he has comfortably been the standout centre-back in the Premier League this season.

The former Southampton defender netted another crucial goal for Liverpool in an impressive display against Luton Town last Wednesday, his third strike of the campaign already.

Van Dijk has always been a regular on the scoresheet for Liverpool and according to Opta, the Reds have won all 16 of the matches in which the colossus has scored in the Premier League.

That's the most matches a player has scored in for a single team while maintaining a 100% win rate in the competition.

Not only this but Van Dijk has scored 18 Premier League goals since the 2018/19 season, the most of any defender in the English top flight during that time frame, according to TNT Sports.

Van Dijk has now netted 22 goals in 251 matches for the Reds, an average of approximately one every 11 matches. That's an astonishing conversion rate for a centre-back, with the Dutch international one of the most devastating aerial threats in world football.

His tally of career goals now sits at 58 at senior level and there are no signs of the defender slowing down in the opposition penalty area.

Given Liverpool's attacking injuries, Van Dijk's quality in the air could prove a huge help to the Reds' chances of silverware moving into the latter stage of the season.
