Virgil van Dijk moment gives Liverpool Trent Alexander-Arnold HOPE
You wait for a hero and then the perfect man turns up for the job.
Liverpool have seen this script before. Time and time again. With the armband on his arm, Steven Gerrard would rescue the Reds so many times, you will have lost count.

Now, against Leicester City, it was Trent Alexander-Arnold who evoke a similar feeling from the club's supporters. The rush, unbridled joy that you only get in these rare fleeting moments in the game.
Alexander-Arnold celebration was charged with emotion. But it was also tinged with something else. A cloud of uncertainty.
When you look back at the moment and you see the passion on Alexander-Arnold's face it's hard to really fathom why he would ever want to leave this football club.
In that moment against Leicester, he was just like all of us - a fan. That's what he is in his very core. But yet like Gerrard, there is a cajoling allure to move on.
Every hero has to go on an adventure. Think about the mythical legends of Odysseus, Perseus or Hercules.

They didn't become heroes by staying at their home town. They went out and conquered the whole wide world. It's this new beginning. A new challenge that Alexander-Arnold must find so alluring about the prospect of Real Madrid.
But it would be foolish to think that, his decision is made. When asked after the game by the Sky Sports reporter about how many moments he has left at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold refused to get involved in talk of his future.
This may alarm fans, but it's important not to read too much into it. This is the kind of response someone would make who hasn't made up his mind.
At this stage when the media is rife about Alexander-Arnold having already agreed a move to Real Madrid, that is good news for Liverpool.
Another moment hints at uncertainty around his future as well. After the game, cameras spotted Virgil van Dijk pushing Alexander-Arnold in front of the fans.
It was a calculated and touching move by the Liverpool captain to give the club's hero his moment in the spotlight. And to give the fans an opportunity to showcase their appreciation for Alexander-Arnold.
It's also a moment that gives Liverpool hope. Because Van Dijk may have had an ulterior motive in his decision making.
The way he pushed him in front of the fans could have been Van Dijk's way of showing Alexander-Arnold what he will miss. These are his people after all. Alexander-Arnold will never get this appreciation in front of the Madrid supporters - regardless of what he does.
Would Van Dijk do this if Alexander-Arnold had already agreed a move to the Spanish giants? Unlikely.
And that's why hope remains for Liverpool. After the events at Leicester, it's clear Alexander-Arnold has not made up his mind.
His future is up in the air and while he may be leaning more towards that heroic Odysseus like adventure - a Gerrard like u-turn is not off the table.
